What is a well-trained mind

Who will care for us tomorrow? Or why training in nursing professions is so important to us.

We need well trained and highly qualified nursing staff. Each of us needs care at some point, because from birth to death there are situations in which we cannot take care of ourselves.

Training has a long tradition in our foundation

Who will care for us tomorrow?

For almost 50 years, the Agnes-Karll-Schule has been training the next generation of nurses for the two foundation hospitals, the Northwest Hospital and Hospital for the Holy Spirit. This tradition is continued with the development of the state nursing education and the professionalization process set in motion by Agnes Karll.

We need well trained and highly qualified nursing staff
Each of us needs care at some point, because from birth to death there are situations in which we cannot take care of ourselves. An accident, a protracted or chronic illness as well as limitations in coping with everyday life can be the reason for using inpatient care in the hospital, outpatient care at home or inpatient care for the elderly. In addition, the demographic development has a serious impact on the care landscape. As the population ages, so does the number of people in need of care and the need for well-trained and highly qualified caregivers.

Nursing training - few offers despite great demand
Nursing, child nursing and care for the elderly is a training occupation in Germany. Despite the nursing emergency and the great need for nursing staff, nursing training is severely disadvantaged by the legislature in contrast to most training professions: training for a nursing profession is financed by the health and nursing insurance funds. All other training occupations in Germany are financed from tax revenues. Only hospitals with a certain medical spectrum are allowed to train. Rehabilitation clinics, outpatient nursing services, small private clinics, outpatient surgery centers, etc. are not allowed to train, but they also need nursing staff. So you compete with the training hospitals for nurses. The whole thing is made even more difficult by the lack of nursing educators who can teach at nursing schools. In Hesse, only about 20 places are offered for nursing teachers each year. Far too little to cover the needs of nursing schools. Due to these difficult framework conditions and financial restrictions, only a limited number of training positions can be offered. However, the need for nursing staff goes far beyond the number of training positions offered. For this reason, nurses have been and are still being recruited from abroad. In the 1970s z. B. from Korea, later from what was then Yugoslavia and today from all over the world.

What role does the training of nurses play in the Hospital for the Holy Spirit Foundation?

In our foundation, training has a long tradition: For almost 50 years, the Agnes-Karll-Schule has been training the next generation of nurses for the two foundation hospitals, the Northwest Hospital and the Hospital in the Holy Spirit. This tradition is continued with the development of the state nursing education and the professionalization process set in motion by Agnes Karll.
