The system landscape problem

It is a common topic: a software introduction is pending. The product is intended to introduce new subject-specific processes and make everyday work much easier. However, these systems rarely stand on their own. Merchandise management systems can be enriched with data from CRM (Customer Relationship Management). In turn, sales from inventory management can help with the sales forecast for a customer in CRM. The data stock is the same, but with different additional data. Microservices such as SMS or WhatsApp automations all require different data in different formats.

Integration: possible solutions

To address this problem, there are three options as a company:

  • Expand a system with non-specialist processes and use them as a data source
  • Design and connection of individual systems to one another to control processes
  • Introduction of a middleware for data aggregation and transfer

Integration of different systems: a challenge for many companies.

The first solution requires a high degree of individual programming for processes that do not actually fit the system. In addition, there are additional costs for any change requests or adjustments, all of which must be developed, tested and rolled out internally or externally. In contrast to this, the second solution can provide a remedy in the short term, but with constantly added systems and new requirements, you run the risk of having to do double work in addition to losing the overview. For example, if a service suddenly needs data from more than one source, you suddenly have twice the work.

Mulesoft Anypoint Platform

The software manufacturer Mulesoft, recently acquired by Salesforce, offers an integration platform with the Anypoint Platform, find out more about this here!

Success with middleware

The more services and systems are used in the company, the more appropriate it is to include middleware, a separate integration software. Instead of constant exchange via different systems, middleware collects data from different sources, processes it and loads it in the appropriate format to the subsequent interfaces. This process is also commonly referred to as ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) called. Everything is covered here, from the selection of relevant data to conversion into a new format and forwarding to another interface.

Linked processes without additional effort

When integrating multiple systems, one thing is guaranteed above all: once it has arrived in the system, a data record can be passed on or forwarded to all other necessary interfaces. There is no need to manually program these processes. It all works through the use of so-calledInterfaces or APIs(Application Programming Interfaces). You can give data to other systems in a format that the offering software can deal with and continue to work with. This is how the services communicate with each other and this is how middleware always transforms the data into an understandable format.

MuleSoft Anypoint Platform - The middleware with a community factor

Many integrations at MuleSoft come ex works.

The point of contact for everything

There are already various providers of middleware solutions in the Salesforce area. Among them are well-tried providers such as Talend or SKYVVA, which still have their right to exist, especially in the area of Salesforce-to-SAP. However, MuleSoft, among others also the provider of the frequently used data migration site dataloader.io, has the best practice from many years of integration softwareAnypoint Platform set up to create a central place for all processes and systems to come together. It thus offers an intuitive way of creating integration flows in which the transformation of data can be set up and tested with just a few clicks of the mouse. With drag-and-drop, even less tech-savvy users can set up and view their data at a glance. Even if things get more complex anyway, a developer can use an intuitive, but powerful, syntax to improve content.

MuleSoft processes automations using visual flows

The community helps out

In addition to a large number of pre-configured integrations, MuleSoft also offers the so-calledAnypoint Exchangeat. On this platform, users of the middleware can help each other out with their experiences and their own integrations. This is an absolutely unique selling point among middleware. In addition, imAnypoint Design Centerthe integration of new services and automations through a visual flow is understandable for everyone after a short training period.

With the concentrated power of the community and the numerous prefabricated connections, nothing stands in the way of introducing your own processes.
