Plants also use energy. The Venus flytrap, for example, a carnivorous plant, closes its trap door very quickly when an insect has landed on it.

Such movements need energy, just like growth, the formation of flowers and seeds, etc. The crucial difference compared to animals is that plants can generate the energy they consume themselves through photosynthesis. Animals need this energy - e.g. B. by eating plants - feed from the outside.

When the sun does not shine at night and photosynthesis is not possible, plants use cellular respiration to provide energy. Plant cells also have mitochondria that operate cell respiration. The metabolic processes are the same as in animals. Plants take in oxygen through the stomata of the leaves; Animals and humans ingest it through their mouth, windpipe and lungs.
