A very simple division of whole numbers is into even and odd numbers. In this article you will find out what that is and how you can recognize even or odd numbers.

### What are even and odd numbers?

In order to find out something about numbers, one of the things that is important is to know which other numbers you can divide by without a remainder. Dividing the whole numbers into even numbers and odd numbers will help you with this task. Because all even numbers are divisible by the number 2 without a remainder. All other numbers are odd numbers. When counting, it is therefore particularly easy to determine whether a number is even or odd. The 1 is odd, because you cannot divide it by 2 without a remainder (it is also smaller than the 2). The 2 is even and then the even and odd numbers alternate. So you actually only have to continue counting in steps of two to determine the even and also the odd numbers. We've already done this for you here for the numbers up to 100.

### Even numbers up to 100

You get the even numbers up to 100 if you simply start counting from 2 in steps of two to 100, so:

### Odd numbers up to 100

You can find out the odd numbers just as easily, except that you now start with 1. You stop at 99 because 100 is an even number. Here are all the odd numbers from 1 to 99:

### Is the zero an even or an odd number?

We left out zero for the even numbers up to 100 because we wanted to start at 2. But what about the 0? Is it an even number or not?

We just defined that an even number is divisible by 2 with no remainder. The zero can be divided by the 2 - as by any other number with the exception of the 0 itself - without a remainder, because 0: 2 = 0. If you don't divide anything between two people, each of them has nothing in the end. Of course, there is no rest either. In this respect, the zero is an even number and you can also start your list with it.
